Anxious about your dental visit? We get it — 40 million Americans feel the same way, according to Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Whether you’re coming in for a regular cleaning or a consultation about your wisdom teeth, here are a few ways to help you overcome your fear.
1. Think about the root cause
Consider why you’re afraid in the first place. Maybe you had a scary dental emergency or went to an unfriendly, intimidating office (that won’t be a problem with us!). Understanding where your anxiety is coming from will help you squash it.
2. Bring distractions
Queue up a calming playlist or podcast to listen to on your headphones while we take care of your filling or dental whitening.
3. Focus on your breathing
Take calming breaths: Count 1 as you inhale, 2 as you exhale, 3 as you inhale, 4 as you exhale, and so on until you get to 10. Then, start back from 1. Before you know it, your cleaning will be over.
4. Go with a friend
Ask a pal or your S.O. to join you at your appointment. Just knowing they’re in the waiting room may relieve some tension.
5. Tell us!
We always try to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible, but let us know if you’re nervous. We’ll do whatever we can to put you at ease.
At DeJesus Dental Group, we have been providing excellent dental care for more than 20 years to the people of Bridgeport/Trumbull Line, Stratford, Milford, Fairfield, Monroe, and all of Fairfield County.
