Unusual Reasons Why Invisalign Works Great

Oct 1, 2016

Most people get orthodontic work at some point in their lives. That’s because having crooked, uneven teeth doesn’t look nearly as good as a set of aligned, straight teeth. Plus, having crooked teeth can also mean you have an overbite or something similar.

Orthodontic treatments can straighten your teeth and help your bite. There are several types you can get at the DeJesus Dental Group. However, one of the most modern and popular treatments is Invisalign. Here, you get a series of clear plastic aligners similar to thin mouthguards. You wear them over your teeth. Over time, they shift your teeth and bite into a better place.

Metal braces work, but with Invisalign, you have a clearly better choice. Here’s are some unusual reasons why Invisalign works so well.

Food won’t get stuck in your braces, so you aren’t facing a higher risk of cavities.

With all of that metal and wire in your mouth, it’s no wonder that food can get stuck in your braces. The brackets are a particular problem. That’s because they are stuck on your teeth. When food get stuck there, it can be right up against your enamel. Since harmful bacteria live off food like that, you are increasing your chances at cavities.

Brushing will help, but even that can be difficult with the braces in the way. Often, you’ll have to use a special tool to carefully get rid of food stuck to your braces.

With Invisalign, you take them out when you eat. That means food will not get stuck to this orthodontic treatment. Even if somehow you get food on the clear aligners, you can rinse them off and put them back in.

You won’t need any dental wax to protect your lips and cheeks.

Speaking of all of that metal and wire, they will do a good job at moving your teeth — but they can also catch on the inside of your lips and cheeks. This means you might end up cutting yourself repeatedly and even getting scars on the inside of your mouth. Don’t forget that you’ll likely have braces for up to three years.

Dental wax is a solution. It’s a clear wax you buy and place on your braces. It smooths over the parts that catch. But with Invisalign, there is nothing to catch on. The trays are made from clear plastic, so they will fit comfortably in your mouth. The only solution better than dental wax is one where you don’t need it in the first place.

You can stick with your current daily routines.

When you get metal braces for your orthodontic treatment, you will have to make changes to your life. For example, you can’t eat certain foods or even gum. Flossing is hard and even brushing is a pain sometimes. Getting hit in the mouth can be very damaging, so you have to be extra careful playing sports or riding bikes. You also have to get used to your smile looking unusual.

The clear aligners of Invisalign are much easier to use. They simply slip on and off your teeth. Cleaning your teeth is the same as before since the aligners come out. Even your smile still looks normal.

You won’t need as many visits to our Connecticut dental offices.

Braces don’t work unless you make repeated visits to one of our two dental offices (Bridgeport/Trumbull or Shelton). That’s because our dentists need to adjust the wires connected to your metal brackets. This is how braces move your teeth. Since you’re probably wearing these for up to three years, that means three years of repeated office visits.

When you go with Invisalign for your orthodontic treatment, you will get a set of plastic aligners each time you visit our Bridgeport/Trumbull, CT or Shelton, CT dental offices. You can still move your teeth without so many visits. Invisalign can be finished in as little as six months instead of three years or so.

There are no restrictions on what you can eat.

When you have metal brace on your teeth, you have to be careful what you eat. Some foods can easily get stuck in your braces. This can feed harmful bacteria in your mouth. Other foods can damage your braces. That means you’ll have to skip gum, peanuts, chips, pretzels, carrots, and more with braces.

Invisalign clear plastic aligners have no such restrictions. That’s because you take them out when it’s time to eat. You’ll need to clean your teeth before you can put them back on. But that’s still much easier than having to remember what foods are OK and which are banned.

Contact either of our two Connecticut offices — Bridgeport/Trumbull at 203-372-1220 or Shelton at 203-378-9737 — or use our online tool to make an orthodontic appointment. Invisalign will help make your smile beautiful.
