What Are Invisible Braces?

If you wish to conceal your orthodontic work without the appearance of traditional metal braces, there are several options to do so from clear to ceramic and incognito braces.  Below are what each has to offer you.

  • Invisalign clear plastic aligners fit comfortably over your teeth, similar to a mouthguard, and slowly transition your teeth into the appropriate spot.
  • Incognito braces live behind your teeth, so you get the correction of traditional braces without anyone seeing the brackets or wires.
  • Ceramic braces work just like traditional brackets and wires, but with ceramic brackets that blend in with your smile.

While Invisalign aligners are a more popular choice for teeth correction, they have some drawbacks, such as the need to remove when eating (often resulting in the misplacing  of the aligner or forgetting to put it back in) and their inability to correct certain severe dental issues.  Depending on the complexity of the case, incognito or ceramic braces may provide a way to move severely crooked teeth while still offering the hidden appearance.  And if you don’t care whether the braces are seen or not, metal braces are just fine.

Traditional Braces are still very effective

Traditional braces slowly pull and push the teeth into place to fix even the most severe orthodontic cases. These braces call for metal wires and brackets across the front of the teeth and are available to all ages. Younger patients often enjoy the option to pick the colors of the rubber bands that hold the braces together.

What about DIY braces?

It’s no secret that orthodontics is an investment in both time and money. As a way to remove a layer, these companies offer do it yourself options from the convenience of your home and promote saving thousands of dollars.  The orthodontic industry has mixed opinions and our Board Certified Orthodontic Specialist advises you to be aware and cautious of anyone or any company that will impact the quality of your life.

If you are curious about the process of getting braces, the cost, the different options available to you, we welcome you to our office for a free consultation. How to Maintain Your Post-Orthodontic Results: Tips for Lifelong Alignment

To maintain your post-orthodontic results and keep your smile aligned, it’s crucial to wear retainers consistently, practice good oral hygiene, and monitor your teeth for any signs of shifting. Retainers, whether fixed or removable, help prevent teeth from moving back to their original positions. Regular checkups and prompt action if shifting occurs are key to preserving your smile long-term. If you lose or damage your retainer, contact your orthodontist immediately for a replacement.
